General Info

Tucked away at Osteria Riva, this charming restaurant offers a dining experience that feels both relaxed and thoughtfully curated. From the moment you arrive, the easy access to free street parking and nearby parking spaces makes things simple, especially if you’re planning a laid-back lunch or a longer meal with friends.

The menu leans into rich, traditional flavors, and it’s clear that each dish is prepared with care. One standout that immediately caught my attention was the Sella Di Capriolo Alla Baden Baden. It’s a dish that feels refined yet comforting, with deep, layered flavors that linger in the best way. Alongside it, the Carne Secca Di Cervo offers something a bit more rustic, bringing a delicate balance of texture and taste that pairs beautifully with a glass of wine.

Speaking of drinks, the selection here complements the food effortlessly. Whether you’re in the mood for a well-chosen wine or something stronger from their hard liquor offerings, the pairing possibilities enhance the overall experience without overwhelming it. It’s the kind of place where the menu and drinks feel like they’re in quiet conversation with each other.

Another highlight worth mentioning is the Cordon-Bleu Di Maiale Al Gorgonzola. It’s rich, indulgent, and surprisingly well-balanced, thanks to the creamy gorgonzola that doesn’t overpower the dish. Then there’s the Trota In Carpione, which brings a lighter, fresher note to the table. It’s a great option if you want something that feels a bit more delicate but still flavorful.

For something cold and refreshing, the Manzo Freddo In Salsa Verde stands out. It’s simple on the surface, yet the salsa verde adds just enough brightness to keep every bite interesting. This variety across the menu makes it easy to see why reviews often highlight the consistency and attention to detail here.

The overall vibe at Osteria Riva is unpretentious but confident. It’s the kind of location where you can enjoy a relaxed lunch without feeling rushed, while still appreciating the craftsmanship behind each plate. Every visit feels like a genuine experience rather than just another meal out, which is exactly what keeps people coming back.

What customers say?

“ I believe I just went to the best restaurant in Lugano. A legit mom and pop restaurant that serves home cooked meals without the fancy decor. This place looks like a local spot and from what I can see it was local people eating here. Very nice people that for the most part say bye to you when they leave. Food was very very good and balanced. Not salty. I went for lunch and it was a set menu that comes with bread soup and an entree. Today was a pumpkin soup and duck with potenta. ”

- Sharon Gimelfarb -

“ I've eaten here twice and both times have been absolutely incredible! The food is excellent Ticinese fair, with perfectly cooked meats and polenta aplenty. The place is small, but it means that the staff have the time to personalize their service and make the experience one that you will remember! ”

- Adam Jones -

“ Such a hidden gems. I went there with my husband after visit lugano. We took manzo cordon bleu (beef), frog with butter n polenta, frog with garlic n parsley (the best imho)... All the food were incredibly delicious. The interior was really classic, the service was outstanding and the price is affordable. If I can give 6 stars, i will definitely give. ”
